An Advent Calendar - December 6th

Hills of the North, rejoice;
river and mountain spring,
hark to the Advent voice;
valley and lowland, sing:
though absent long, your Lord is nigh;
He judgment brings and victory.

Isles of the southern seas,
deep in your coral caves,
pent be each warring breeze,
lulled be your restless waves:
He comes to reign with boundless sway,
and makes your wastes his great highway.

Lands of the East, awake!
Soon shall your sons be free;
the sleep of ages break
and rise to liberty:
on your far hills, long cold and grey,
has dawned the everlasting day.

Shores of the utmost West,
ye that have waited long,
unvisited, unblessed,
break forth to swelling song;
high raise the note that Jesus died,
yet lives and reigns, the Crucified!

Shout, while ye journey home,
songs be in every mouth;
Lo! from the North we come,
from East, and West, and South.
City of God, the bond are free;
we come to live and reign in thee.

Genesis 28:10-17 (KJV)

And Jacob went out from Beersheba, and went toward Haran. And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep. And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it. And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed; And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed. And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of. And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not. And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.

Revelation 10:1-7 (KJV)

John Steczynski, Angel from Meditations on the Visions of John 1996-1997And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire: And he had in his hand a little book open: and he set his right foot upon the sea, and his left foot on the earth, And cried with a loud voice, as when a lion roareth: and when he had cried, seven thunders uttered their voices. And when the seven thunders had uttered their voices, I was about to write: and I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Seal up those things which the seven thunders uttered, and write them not. And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven, And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer: But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets.

Today is also the Feast of Saint Nicholas.
